Tips to improve your home during quarantine

We understand that while in isolation the world feels like a very strange place, but that doesn’t mean that we can’t use this time to our advantage. There are plenty of small improvements that we can do to enhance our homes. Some of these may even increase the value of the property when the housing market opens again.

Create a home office space

With so many people now working from home due to quarantine measures, the way we work in the future may change. The pandemic could permanently shift working patterns as companies have been forced to embrace remote working. The implementation of virtual technology has also meant that many companies have been able to see the benefits of some of their staff working from home. This is something that companies may implement, even if it is just for some days of the working week. For this reason, a home office could become a very desirable space in many homes. Another benefit of this is that it is an easy area to create. All you need in a small area where you can have a desk, and some shelving if needed. Ideally find a space that can be permanently dedicated to a home office as you will be able to work more professionally.

Improve your garden

The benefit of a property having a well maintained outdoor space has never been more important than it is now. For those of us lucky to have outside space during quarantine, this will be appreciated more than ever. New homeowners are likely to see even greater benefits to having a garden, so ensuring yours is looking its best might be the key to a better sale.

There are many ways to improve your outdoor space, and as you spend more time in your garden, you will no doubt become more aware of what work needs to be done. Small changes can make a big difference! Start by clearing any clutter and removing any weeds or overgrown plants. Simple jobs such as mowing the lawn can make a huge difference to its appearance. Try adding some new plants and pots and look at installing outdoor lighting if and where possible. Always treat the garden like another room in your home.

Paint, paint, paint!

You’d be surprised how far a fresh lick of paint goes when improving the appearance of your home. A good paint job will not only enhance the appearance of your property, it will also add character and personality. An older kitchen can look like new simply by painting the cabinets and adding a pretty backsplash. Have a good look around your home and see where looks like it could use a touch up. Or consider changing the colour completely. While painting the walls of your home may be one of the more expensive and time-consuming tasks, the outcome will be worth it.
