You can get to Manchester in about an hour and it is even quicker to get to Liverpool. You are also only moments from the beautiful Cheshire countryside and the Welsh border is only a couple of miles away.
Settling in Chester will give you access to many wonderful places to eat and drink locally. There are fabulous parks, museums, galleries and of course Chester Zoo. With the river Dee running through the city there is a paved promenade with cafes, restaurants, and pubs. You can hire rowing boats or a pedalo to propel yourself along the water. Phase one of the Northgate Development (a £60 million new market, cinema, open performance square, and car park) is well underway and The Storyhouse, that includes a library, an 800-seat theatre, a 150-seat studio theatre, a 100-seat boutique and independent cinema has already opened. With the £100 million Central Business Quarter due for completion in 2028, this will significantly increase employment and create a better infrastructure in the city.
Chester has great transport links, offering direct access to many key locations. Commuting by train to Manchester takes just over one hour and you could be in Liverpool in about 45 minutes. If you are going south, then London Euston is just two hours away. Chester is also close to both the M56 and M53 motorways, meaning you can drive to Liverpool or Manchester in less than an hour.
The original Roman fort was called Deva and the walls are the most complete city walls in Britain. Chester is famous for its black and white buildings, medieval two-tier buildings with covered walkways. Chester was granted city status in 1541.
Chester is home to several global brands and large employers such as Airbus, Bank of America, M & S Bank and Capita and The University of Chester. Its proximity to both Liverpool and Manchester gives you many options when considering employment.
Although not what you would consider cheap, average house prices in Chester are still below the national average.
